TRUTH OVER COMFORT. ALWAYS.

AVERAGE BUBBA — UNFILTERED

So Long, and Thanks For Putting Up With Me

So….

If you’ve been wondering why there hasn’t been a new post pop up around here, sit tight. I’m about to tell you.

Four days ago I woke up and just…didn’t. Didn’t open the laptop. Didn’t scroll through the news looking for something to light my hair on fire about. Didn’t draft a single word about politics, culture wars, or whatever fresh nonsense was trending on social media. What folks these days call a “mental health day” turned into four of them. And somewhere in the middle of day two I started thinking. Really thinking.

Here’s what I came up with.

Everybody and their brother — and their brother’s cousin twice removed — is out here hollering about politics and social issues. Left, right, center, and every shade of unhinged in between. The market is, shall we say, well supplied. And if I’m being straight with you, which I always have been, I’m not sure my voice in that particular choir was moving the needle much. I said what needed saying. I meant every word of it. No apologies, no regrets.

But the Good Lord has a funny way of redirecting a man when he gets too comfortable in one place.

See, I started this thing years ago because I had something to say and couldn’t not say it. That part hasn’t changed. What’s changed is what’s demanding to be said. And where it’s coming from. Because somewhere in those four quiet days something older and deeper started poking at me. Something that goes back a lot further than this blog. Further than the news cycle. Further than social media ever thought about existing.

It goes back to dirt. And sweat. And the kind of knowledge that gets passed down not in a classroom but standing next to somebody who actually knew what they were doing.

Life has a way of circling back around to what matters. The Good Lord has a way of making sure of it — whether you cooperate gracefully or get dragged there kicking. I’ve done it both ways. This time I’m going willingly.

Average Bubba — Unfiltered served its purpose. It said what needed saying when it needed saying. But this chapter is closing. Not with bitterness, not with a whimper, and Lord knows not with an apology. Just with the quiet certainty that it’s time to turn the page.

Something is coming. I’m not going to tell you exactly what yet. I’ll just say it involves going back to where I started — back to things I know in my bones, things that were in my blood before I ever typed a single word on the internet. Things that are a whole lot more satisfying than arguing with strangers online. Things that smell like pine trees and South Mississippi morning air.

You’ll know when it’s time.

Now — before I go, I want to say something to those of you who stuck around through the years. The ones who showed up, read the words, maybe shared a post or two, and didn’t once get your drawers in a permanent twist over any of it. You knew what this was. You knew who I was. You came back anyway. That means something to a man who never once wrote a single word trying to make everybody happy.

Truth Over Comfort. Always.

That part doesn’t change. It just finds new ground to stand on.

See you down the road.

Bubba has been doing this since the mid-90s — back when blogging meant something and opinions had to earn their keep. South Mississippi. Semi-retired. Happily opinionated. Definitively conservative. Pull up a chair or move along — either way, you were warned.
