I’m going to be straight with you, because straight is the only setting this place has ever run on.
I’m stepping away from the blog for a while. Not a week. A real while. I don’t have a date to give you and I’m not going to invent one just to make this feel tidier than it is.
Here’s the honest version, and it’s short, because the long version would just be me talking myself in circles for your benefit and mine. I’m tired in the way that sleep doesn’t fix. And if I’m telling the truth — which is the whole job here — I’m not entirely sure right now where I want this to go next. That’s not a crisis. Nobody’s hauling me off. It’s just a man who’s been writing hard for a good while looking up and realizing he needs to go stand in his own life for a stretch and figure out what he actually has left to say.
I’ve spent a lot of words lately on not performing. On building a place instead of putting on a show. On being the same man off the page as on it. Well — this is that. A fellow who writes about the four a.m. and the spool of wire running out doesn’t get to pretend his own tank never does. Mine’s low. I’d rather say so and go fill it than keep typing on fumes and hand you something hollow.
Where This Leaves You
The blog stays up. Everything that’s here stays here. The email box in the sidebar still works, and when I’ve got something worth saying again, the folks who signed up will be the first to know — no algorithm, no guessing, straight to you like always.
I don’t know exactly what comes back, or when, or in what shape. But I know this porch is still mine, and I know where the door is, and I know I’ll be back sitting on it when I’ve got something true to sit down and tell you.
